Dr. Steed started with the PinPointe laser and about a year ago then changed to the Cooltouch Varia laser due to lack of consistent results.  The Cooltouch Varia is a newly acquired laser that is showing very encouraging signs of success for the treatment of toenail fungus.  It has a very unique hand piece that not only delivers the infrared laser light, but has a temperature sensor that precisely measures the surface temperature of the nail making treatment very specific in reaching target temperatures that inactive or kill the fungus in and under the nail plate.  In addition the laser handpiece has a cooling system that when the laser reaches its target temperature it automatically bursts a cold spray onto the nail.  This helps to make treatment very tolerable as the laser will heat the nail.  In some cases this can be uncomfortable, but with the Cooltouch laser this is minimized due to the cold spray.  This is a unique feature to this laser.  Compared to other lasers, the 10mm laser beam width makes the treatment more efficient and shortens your visit dramatically and yet demonstrates more consistent results for toenail fungus.  We have found the Cooltouch laser to allow us to be more competitive in offering price saving plans to resolve your nail fungus compared to other lasers.

This is same patient despite the skin color tone difference, we wish that photo "B" was in more focus.  Amazing result!  This nail took a year to get to this point with 4-5 laser treatments.  Photo "A" nail had to be totally debrided or cut back to remove all diseased nail.  There was no nail at all on the nail bed when I was done and when the patient had their first laser treatment.  You can see photo "B" has a solid nail, attached, growing very nicely...this patient was very satisfied.
